ego logoDeep in the mid west, in the land of Texas there is a man with an Alter Ego.  Bryan Angelo rolls into the CatShack from Houston Texas to tell all of us about Team Alter Ego, a scenario based team that has been a dream bouncing around in his head since day one of his 15 year paintball career.

The first time Bryan picked up a paintball marker was back in 1994 at a 26 hour Viper Scenario game, the hooks of paintball dug deep into his soul on that first outing as it has for many of us who play.  He attended the game with his best friend but was completely unprepared for what was in store for him.  For shelter they brought a pup tent, that was no where near ample enough for him and his friend, more the size for a ten year old child.  Provisions were overlooked also as they brought a six pack of soda and a box of cheese crackers.  On top of the lack of preparedness it was only 40 degrees so to say it was a cold Texas day and night is an understatement.  In true paintball fashion the hunger, cold and lack of sleep was all but forgotten when the play started.  Loving every minute of the game they met a great team that was looked up to by everyone there, Blitzkrieg.  After meeting the team Bryan knew what he wanted to do with his paintball career.ego02

With the paintball succubus deeply embedded in the soul of Mr. Angelo he started playing with greater frequency.  Recreation, woods, 3 man pick up games, tournaments, scenarios, you name it he played in it.  Eventually, after finishing up with college, he joined up with a scenario team called Terminal Chaos. This is when the career building started.  Through the endeavors with Terminal Chaos he started meeting people in the industry and he learned what being on a scenario team was all about. With the introduction to commanding, learning the importance of communication and everything else that teams go through to build on their skills Bryan gained the needed knowledge for eventually running his own team. Unfortunately Terminal Chaos fell apart as many teams do in out sport, so Bryan was a solo player again. Guesting with lots of teams and taking notes of what he thought worked and did not work and why his own team building skills grew.

ego01One day the pieces fell together. He was playing with two other people, his girlfriend and a gentleman he met at an eight hour game, they tossed around the idea of forming a team. With an agreed upon foundation they started recruiting a few players and Alter Ego was formed. With the team still in its infancy being only 14 months old they have already played in a dozen or so games, commanded and won two, and pulled in over a dozen awards. With nine team members the recruitment philosophy is pretty simple; they look for people that they get along with on and off the field and people who show gun skills and knowledge of play on the field. They take the things learned through years of play and instill this knowledge into the new players.
