The 1st annual Tournament of Triumph, Saturday November 7th, 2009…..well there is simply no other words to describe it but just plain awesome!. Over 200 paintball enthusiasts from all over Ontario descended on Soldiers of Fortune Paintball to take on Hamilton’s own Emergency Task Force Personnel, all in an effort to raise funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Suffice it to say game organizer Detective Constable Peter Wiesner and field owners Matt and Vince Firmi couldn’t have asked for a better day to present the tournament. Sunny, clear skies and balmy temperatures made for a excellent day of paintball for all in attendance. As this photographer/videographer hit the field it became clear very quickly that the ETF of Hamilton came to play paintball and they brought their “A” game. Here in Canada it is unusual to see our Police Services hit the paintball field in an organized fashion so seeing them out for the day was fantastic. These groups of SWAT personnel tirelessly took on team after team until each team had played a total of 5 times each. Amazingly enough the Police Services really held their own against seasoned paintball players.
Further adding to the event overall was the presence of mainstream media including CHCH Channel 11 News and CHML Radio who not only filmed aspects of the tournament but also fielded participating teams themselves.
Other teams in attendance included Renegade Dragons, Mac Security, The
Newbies, Team Whitebread, S Hamilton/H Carter, The Gunners, JDRF Morris, Wheel Wizards, CHCH Kamikazes, Hamilton By-Law, T.A.P.S, The Mixed Nuts, Cold Snap, 1st SSF, CHML and Central D.
At the end of the day the points were tallied up… emerging victorious were Team Whitebread with the 1st SSF out of CQB in Toronto, Ontario very very close with only a 5 point margin of difference. Special thanks to the over 25 volunteers who helped officiate and perform numerous other tasks the day of.
The biggest winners overall were those stricken with Juvenile Diabetes…although the total amount raised has yet to be tallied, game organizers estimated the dollars raised to be between $8000 – $10000
