Richard and James Brea, permanent fixtures in the paintball community of New Hampshire since 1995 are taking the game to the next level. In a telephone interview with Richard and James in New Hampshire, The Catshack Reports took the opportunity to learn a bit more about this new tournament series that has some real potential.

In a recent article here on The Catshack “The Winds of Change” it was discussed how paintball requires additional organization and the necessity to establish competitive house leagues like any other mainstream sport.

Have Richard and James Brea done it?

On the phone Richard explains with some amount of excitement and enthusiasm how over the years he has gotten bored with the traditional Milsim big games and unstructured paintball so prevalent at some paintball venues. Enter the “Milsim Corps” Scenario League,  a league created by the players, for the players. Heard that before?…so have we, thus the necessity to dig deeper to see what makes this different from any of the other league or tournament out there.

To begin with Richard explains that the Corps has been very selective about the fields that have been endorsed making sure that each field is no more than at least an hour from each other to insure the market in any given region is not saturated.

Each field operator is supplied the game format for that date. The games themselves are straight scenario games complete with roles and missions for each player to accomplish. The full game is divided into 6 segments with one segment played on a monthly basis. Further each segment or mission works out to a 3 game format with 4 objectives per game. Each player may assume a role from a leadership capacity to a Sniper role. Each game is 30 minutes in length and the teams competing may apply their skills as they see fit, Richard mentions this makes no two games alike.

The three components of the Milsim Corps are as follows

1) The Milsim Corps League is acting as the governing body
2) It is a field operated league with scoring submitted to the governing body for ranking and scoring purposes.
3) Aside from the annual $50 fee per member there are no other associated costs to enter or register for the Team ID.

Ok, so the 30 fields allowed entry to the Milsim Corps for 2010 become something of a house league (please note Richard explains it is 30 fields only with this the beginning year until they are confident the league is properly established). In each case area teams are vying for victory in each game as the league progresses through the season much like little league baseball or hockey. On another note registered teams may setup their own schedule and attend any registered field to compete in the event, if a team would like to manage a road trip.

To register your team to take part in the Milsim Corps is only a mere $50, compare that to other sports such as Lacrosse @ $145 per year or Softball @ $60. Through registration, teams and players are issued arm bands and entered into the National database for purposes of tracking scores and statistics.

The final National event will see players given Mag Fed markers only to compete with for the title. For now the league has the backing of RAP4 and Spraymore Paintball Mines.

Richard and James are also pleased to have been contacted by other countries including Malaysia, the UK, Brazil, Argentina, Canada and South Africa…..thus it is entirely possible the league will expand exponentially for 2011.
