The Defcon Extreme Speedball Series went off without a hitch last weekend as 14 teams battled it out over a two day period May 29th and 30th.
The Catshack spoke directly with Garner Lupo, field owner regarding the event itself. For the first installment of the DESS series entirely based on the PSP format, Garner was very pleased with the overall outcome. 14 teams appeared over 3 Divisions including Young Guns, Rookie and Novice. “One of the more exciting divisions to observe” said Garner “had to be the Young Guns, they really went after each other” Garner went on to remark from his own observations.
One of Garner’s main goals during the entirety of the event was to focus on customer service and going the extra mile to make sure all in attendance had an awesome time. BBQ lunch as well as refreshments were provided at no additional cost to participants. Field staff made a point of insuring the pit areas were free of debris and well stocked with hydrating liquids so those competing didn’t lack the necessary amenities to keep going.
Quality game officials were provided by members of both the Knights Templar and Toronto Rage teams. Vendors present included Canadian Paintball on hand to provide tech services and provide a cool down tent and goods for sale. Also on hand was Uneek promoting a new brand apparel line.
The Catshack also took the liberty of contacting one of the winning teams for their Division “The Niagara Aces” sponsored by Operation Milsim. Member “Dre San Jose” had the following to say about the event from his perspective.
“All in all it was a great day, while very fierce competition everyone was great, we couldn’t have asked for more. Everyone was very supportive on our climb to the top, even the teams we eliminated cheered us on into the finals. The atmosphere was fantastic, we witnessed great people doing great things for this amazing sport, to us this is what CANADA needs for paintball. Field owner Garner Lupo did a great job setting up DESS, we will definitely be attending Event II June 19th and 20th to defend our title. Hope to see everyone there again, for now we are one step closer to World Cup. ”
