Following an exhaustive round of event coverage last Sunday, the Catshack Reports telephone hotline started to ring off the hook at approximately 1900hrs. Elements of D Day’s very own 1st CAN PARA Able Company put out the invite for the Catshack to join them as they were coming in hot the following day to the LZ at Soldiers of Fortune Paintball in Hamilton ON for the annual Labor Day big game.
1st CAN PARA have been a real driving force for paintball and promoting the annual big D Day (
Wyandotte, Oklahoma, USA) event here in Canada. The Catshack just could not resist the chance to join them for a photo op and some game coverage.
Apparently many other regional paintball enthusiasts had the same idea as game organizers were not anticipating the kind of attendance they had Monday September 6th, 2010.
So it began as teams pushed back and forth with Red dominating the first part of the day with control of much of the field. Sometime after the lunch break Green rallied to take it back and earn some much needed points to catch up in the scoring.
As the day wore on The
Catshack was present to bear witness to an amazing feat of skill and patience. One of the young men from the Steel City SWAT team based out of Hamilton found himself stranded behind enemy lines as enemy combatants overwhelmed his position. Unbeknownst to several players this young fellow had switched to stealth mode and hid himself away in a building. Slowly but surely several members of the Red team found themselves shot out still completely unaware of where the fire was coming from. The Catshack awarded Kevin “Kevinator” Matthews our MVP for best play of the day earning him a free Catshack shirt.
Attendance at the Labor Day Big Game was 229 people. A very big increase over last years 124 player attendance. Despite a substantial lead by Red team in the first half of the game (40 points for Red versus 20 points for Green) Green team dominated the second half scoring 54 points versus 16 points for Red team. Total final scores were Green: 74, Red: 56
