2010 WRAP UP, 2011 PREVIEW
After a good 2010 we look forward to 2011, Membership, Early Schedule
2010, The Season that was …
In 2010 we continued moving our team forward. We attended a bunch of great events in multiple states. We were not immune from the down turn in the economy as we did less events this year than in years past. Since we did fewer events, we leaned towards charity events in which to play. Overall 2010 was a good year.
We started off with a few indoor events at Hornetsnest Paintball in Ancramdale, NY. Bob, the owner, makes this one of our favorite places to play. He is a playersʼ owner and always makes sure that everyone has a good time. We also got to visit with Bob during our trips to EMR as he sets up his vendor trailer at the big events.
Our big game season started, as it almost always does, at EMR paintball. We attended one of the premier events in Northeast Paintball. Castle Conquest at EMR paintball is something to behold. Every paintball player should attend this event at least once in a lifetime, with just under 2000 players and some of the closest combat you will ever see you just canʼt go wrong. Blue, Deuce, and all the staff at EMR make sure that everyone had a great time. Great paintball, great staff, fun times, no wonder we made the 6 hour trip three times in 2010.
We then visited a local field to support the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Fundraiser, put together by the staff at Xtreme Paintball in Agawam, MA and the Chief from Blandford, MA. In the end a lot of players had a great time and money was raised for a great cause.
Then it was back to EMR for our first taste of a 26 hour hybrid game. Western War was a blast and also raised funds for both the NFFF and the families of fallen Police Officers. We also took part in the “nighttime†games of BlackJack and the Hot dog eating contest. All in order to get points for the overall game. As always a great time was had at EMR.
Our next event was a small one at a new field local to us. Geko Paintball hosted the first scenario they put together. Mexicalli Blues was a good time even with a smaller crowd. Good new field with lots of potential. Also a top notch staff. Our own Smack took MVP and the winning side was lead by Media.
We followed that with another trip to Xtreme in Agawam for another great cause. This was our second trip to play in the “Save the Tataʼs†fundraiser for Breast Cancer. Once again lots of great players, great paintball and money raised for a great cause. We ended our 2010 season with two events late in the year. We made the trip to EMR for Castle Conquest XXX, then finished out the year at Fox 4 Paintball in Upton, MA for the Untouchables event.
Where are we headed in 2011
IN 2011 we are planning on continuing the lean towards fund raising as we feel it is important to give back to causes that effect us in multiple ways.
As of the writing of this issue of Splatter we have already secured EMR and Blueʼs Crew, Stinger Paintball Designs and Pinokio Hoppers for the 2011 season. We fully expect to get all of our 2010 sponsors back and look forward to working with all of them in the future. On a sad note, Midnight Medicine has closed up shop a victim of the economy. We thank them for the support they showed us over the past several years and wish them luck in anything they do in the future.
We are planning to once again, put together our Custom Prize Package for the 2011 season. Once we finalize our schedule we will figure out how many we will be giving away. Look for more info in the next issue of Splatter.
Looking for new members
As we start into 2011, we are looking to expand our team. If you are a member of a public safety agency, or an industrial safety team, let us know. We are actively searching for new members. You can contact us via email at info@maltesemilitia.com or visit us on Facebook or the web www.maltese-militia.com
Team Schedule
It is too early to try and set our schedule for 2011. We will be having our annual team meeting on January 22 at Geko Paintball. Thanks go out to Geko for allowing us the use of the conference room. We are going to follow the meeting with a little open play on the indoor speedball fields at Geko. Join us if you like.
We are also looking to return to EMR for both Spring and Fall Castle Conquests, and Xtreme for the Guns for Hoses II and “Save the Tataʼsâ€. We are not sure where else we may be headed but watch the web for updates. If you would like us to come play along side you, drop us a note and we will see how it fits into the schedule.
Hereʼs to a fun and exciting 2011!
