The Catshack Reports successfully completed our third annual trek across the border, through New York State and into the breath taking scenery of the Appalachian Mountains to New Milford Pennsylvania for Spring Castle Conquest 2012. Traveling in the company of the Canadian contingent of Blue’s Crew, both Goose and Kernel made the long journey across that part of the States an enjoyable one.
As Blue himself so aptly put it during opening ceremonies the paintball Gods blessed EMR with bright sunny skies and cool temperatures April 28th and 29th 2012. Ultimately, as we all know, the perfect kind of conditions for a top notch game of paintball. Over 800 avid paintball enthusiasts descended on the EMR venue, markers gleaming and jerseys colorfully dotting the landscape. Speaking with Paintball Man of the Year Daniel “Barney” Alamo of Blues Crew, “teams from across the country came prepared to take the level of game play up a notch, it was tough competition, the kind of game I love as it test my skills as a paintball player“.
Visiting guests of note included none other than Miss Catshack 2012 Ms Tracy Hayes and her boyfriend and runner up for the Catshack Kool Kat contest Brandon Blouin all the way from sunny Florida…. now dubbed America’s favorite paintball couple the two youths had a fantastic time playing the day.” this past weekend at EMR Paintball Park was an experience I will never forget. It was my second time at a big scenario game and I was completely overwhelmed with how awesome it was. Brandon Blouin and I drove from FL to PA just to attend and it was more than worth it. Defending the castle and playing alongside Blues Crew and others…way too much fun. EMR also has a mind-blowing paintball MUSEUM that seriously left me in shock….. and partying with the people of paintball on top of that….unbelievable, absolutely unbelievable” stated Tracy on the experience she had.
Not to mention Mr Skeletor262, that zany and most entertaining YouTube personality from Wisconsin joined many others to assault the castle. At one point The Catshack knowing both personalities likened Skeletor to Greg Hastings for his ability to scramble up a steep hill seemingly without effort and with great speed and athleticism.
Teams and individuals wasted no time slinging paint at each other as the lines closed and the battle was on. It wasn’t long before the Castle once again turned Blue under a hail of paint with each side seeking to assert domination over the other. Naturally it was Blue’s Crew that lead the Defenders joined by the Burly Bastards, Divine Wraith, Great Lakes Rangers, Half Baked Crazy, Lies and Deception, Maltese Militia, Mercs, S.F. Wicked Wombats, and the WildCards pitted against the attackers led by the Unholy Alliance and commanded by such teams as Pubcrawling and Joint Fury. Many other teams to numerous to mention also joined the fray. Yet another great touch this year was the addition of a live DJ streaming music out of the third story of the Center Tower inside the Castle during the game.
Figures it was one of scenario paintball’s top tournament teams “The Master Blasters” with plenty of support that during the second major assault made it to the castle wall and in a vicious battle managed to push their way into the castle laying an end to the siege with the attackers claiming victory by 1pm and approximately 4 hours into the day. The game then reset and a second game was held in the same castle which again lasted some 4 hours rounding out a perfect day of paintball.
The Catshack utilized a combination of filming to include the Canon Rebel for still photography as well as the JVC Everio for HD video AND the introduction of the NEW Greg Hastings R7 Re-Play 1080 HD Helmet Camera to capture the game on film. What do we think of the new tech?…. that’s another article due out very shortly…. but I think some of the clips as shown in our video production on the Catshack YouTube Channel says it all .
As the day drew to a close, EMR in usual style distributed tons of prizes to the crowds in attendance. As the Catshack stated during our own speech to the crowd in attendance while distributing a few prizes, what keeps us coming back is the great sense of community that EMR has built … “I keep coming back because of YOU” is I believe the exact quote.
Vendors on site this year included Valken, Boss Paintball, DeadMans Apparel, Engler Custom Paintball, Zodiac Paintball and J&J Barrels lending to the overall festival atmosphere. The players party on Saturday evening was packed and food and entertainment provided by the Bone Heads Paintball team this year.
A great big round of applause goes out to Blue, Deuce and all the staff at EMR Paintball Park on another job well done. Special thanks once again to the Exiled Souls, a great team that never hesitates to extend real hospitality to the Catshack Reports with a warm cabin and a comfortable couch to curl up on. Not to mention the super meal provided by Chef and the Jersey Titans. You guys rock!
For many who do love to travel, especially those many teams here in Canada who have yet to cross the border and experience some of the events the US has to offer. Why not?, if you can journey 8 hours or more across Ontario, for the simple cost of a enhanced drivers license or passport, you are guaranteed an experience well worth the time and effort … and the expense.
