Seems the decision by management for the Mont Tremblant Cowboys to import almost the entirety of the Houston Heat line up paid off in a big way at the CXBL Event 3 held at Flag Raiders Paintball the weekend of August 4th and 5th. Despite having to leave the Russians behind in Chicago due to visa issues, the Heat lineup showed their stuff as pros competing in the CXBL.
The Catshack Reports was on location as the first and highly anticipated match up between the Cowboys and Kitchener Recon got underway on the Saturday. The first couple of rounds were exciting as the two teams got into the grind and went back and forth for the first few rounds of the the first half. As the crews hit a tie at 2 and 2 it was the Cowboys that went to town asserting dominance in a very big way. With the likes of Chad George, Chad “YaYa” Bouchez, Sam Monville, Nick Slowiak, Ryan Smith, Jon Woodley and Ronnie Dizon the Cowboy crew went on to score point after point laying a rather unexpected smack down on the Recon roster. Both Woodley and Bouchez had an overall impressive day earning themselves the title of NAX Stars on two out of three of their matches. Speaking with Recon owner Nelson Fonseca “With Thomas “The Troll” Taylor out with a knee injury, the team normally plays highly aggressively but it seemed it did not matter what we did, whether aggressive or conservative, Recon just couldn’t pull it together today. Normally when we play aggressive we score points”.
Other teams expected to pull wins did exactly that to include Vancouver Thunder and Drummondville Daytona both of whom had very strong matches through Saturday. It seemed none that faced off with the Cowboys could ultimately take out the Heat line for a win however.
Have to admit a bit of a jaw dropper as the final CXBL matchup on the Saturday saw the Tremblant Cowboys take the field to face off on Toronto Rockstar. Coming into Event 1, Rockstar were the underdogs yet managed to pull off an impressive performance on the field. The Catshack cringed fearing the worst as the crew went off the break to take on the Cowboy’s Heat line. Instead of an anticipated crushing defeat, the Rockstar team held their own and while they did not pull off the win, only suffered what I would consider a minor defeat with a final score of 6-3. Hats off to the Rockstar crew, as personally mentioned to owner Alex Medina and the rest of the team, The Catshack Reports considered their performance a stellar one, none of the team have anything to hang their heads about as it was a job well done.
Speaking with the field owner for Georgina Paintball, Deep Patel mentioned his field having entered a team to the North American XBall League for the very first time. “This is a great venue, I think this tournament is very well organized and run” stated Deep all the while helping to prepare his team to take the field. Agreed Deep, this tournament series here in Canada guarantees top notch competition and top notch staffing including great field referees.
On to Richmond Cup in Ottawa now, it should be interesting to see how the teams fare as they all gear up on the road to NAX.
