Centuries from now the governments of the world are all but gone, replaced by multinational companies so large they control every natural resource on the planet. Only a handful of these companies survived the Resource War. The only way to survive the limitations of the dying planet were to move outward, into space.
The United Space Governance announced to the world on 01-01-2529 that the USG along with the United Space Military(USM)have devised a plan to use massive vessels called “Planet-Crackers†to destroy other planets to utilize their resources. On 02-15-2534 the USG vessel Ishimura was deployed into the darkness of space, on route to Aegis 7, a planet hundreds of thousands of miles away. On 09-06-2539 the Ishimura began operations. They chose a desolate region on the planet to crack. Images were sent back to planet Earth to track the progress. On 09-13-2539 these images stopped, nothing but static remained. Two days later all contact was lost.
The USG, wondering what had happened to their ship and personal sent the Concordance Extraction Corporation (CEC) to meet up with the Ishimura to see if there were any troubles. On 10-10-2539, the USG Kellion docks with the USG Ishimura but all is not well…
Mission Masters Dead Space Oblivion was held on Saturday, October 10th at Three Rivers Paintball Park with the sole intention of bringing excitement, fun and competitive scenario mission based paintball to its participants.Â
We had the CEC (Blue) Facing off against the Necromorphs (Red). With teams in attendance being Band of Brothers, Highlanders, GKG, FEAR and Smokin Aces it promised to be a memorable day for everyone who braved the wacky Western Pennsylvania weather. Approaching the field from the south as I did I was concerned, It went from rainy to slightly clear with 20 miles to go to the field when the dark clouds rolled in and released their wet fury. On top of the chilly rain you had the temperature hovering in the 50’s making it feel like it was in the low 40’s. Pulling into the parking lot of the field there were only seven other cars in the lot so I was feeling a little comprehensive on the turn out. But in true Mission Masters form the crowd starting rolling in, in due time.
Game play went as expected for the first few missions out of the eight scheduled for the day. With the moisture still fresh in the air from the morning showers Team Red and Blue went charging into the battle with their guns up, shooting gelatinous projectiles at each other with fervent abandon. Neither team was able to get a full score as the completed one of the two objectives they were tasked with and dug in to prevent the opposing team from fulfilling their agendas.
At the end of Mission three we saw team blue start to pull away as they were able to complete both their primary and secondary missions and prevent team red from doing both. This continued through lunch and on and on it seemed, that is until Mission 7. Team red organized, led by GKG and Band of Brothers the rally cry was heard and everyone took the field with emotion and the need to crush those who opposed them on the field. At the end of Mission 7 team red gained the lead by a small five points to take the lead for the first time of the day.
Mission 8, the last and final mission of the day, saw both teams ready and willing to do what was needed to win the game. Team blue started on both sides of team red surrounding them and having the high ground as an advantage. When the whistle blew team red surrounded the Necro Hive and eliminated everyone who dared come within gunshot from it, the members of team blue first fell from the high ground so team red them turned all of their attention on eliminating the Ishimura, represented by the large fort which was where the remaining members of team blue resided. With four engines to destroy and many members of the opposing team dug in deep inside the walls of the fortress team red had a difficult task ahead of them. With fire coming from all four of the towers and every door red advanced little by little, taking one player, then another, then another. With only minutes left team red member Devon snuck up on Dead “Cuda†Allen along with a few members from the Highlanders and made Cuda surrender his position in the front tower. Unfortunately for team blue once the Necromorphs had this position the game was all but over for them.
The Necromorphs rallied and won the game with teamwork and quick planning. They moved as a unit in the last few missions and took home the win with a score of 170 to 110.
Thanks goes out to the Mission Masters crew for putting on another memorable year of mission based scenario games for the region. Memories are built through the games, fun is had and friendships are built. It is my pleasure to be able to attend these events and continue to support the guys of Mission Masters.
