The day dawned clear and cool with the promise of a great day of competition between some of the best paintball pistol players in Ontario.

Picture 041Ten (10) players were on hand at the new Midland Family Paintball Adventures (MFPA) field in Midland, Ont., with three (3) members of team C.H.A.O.S. ( Jenn, Ross, and Troy) making the trip from Guelph and Jay “Dirtnap” and Chris coming from the London area.

Local players on hand were, Frank Benner, Fez MacIntosh, Mike “Warpig” Giddings all of the HeadHunters and Brandon “Crash” Moriarity and Tammy “BB” Bedard, HeadHunter recruits.

Organizing the event and representing the Event Sponsors was “Maverick” Watts, a 27 year veteran Champion paintballer and a major player in some of paintballs more exciting developments throughout the past several years.

Up for grabs were several prizes including $100.00 cash for First place in each of 4 events- One vs One Combat, running obstacle course, Standing target Shooting, and the series signature event the old west style “Quick Draw” shootout. Also awarded were numerous Tippman Sports T-Shirts and fullback hats, always a favorite of players everywhere.

The overall 2nd place prize was a brand new Tippmann TPX .68 caliber pistol.  The Grand Prize, and object of much attention, was donated by Tiberius Arms of New Jersey and was a new Tiberius 8.1 First Strike ready pistol.  What made this pistol special was the 14 karat gold upper receiver and stainless steel barrel! I was privileged to be able to see this on Friday night and, wow, what a beautiful marker!

The days first event was the one vs one combat and took place in MFP’s sand pit”,  a field of abandoned vehicles, small bunkers, and dangerous open ground.  Competitors were faced with a completely different setting than last years successful event in that the battlefield was more open with less available cover.  There were some fantastic battles with all players, seasoned veterans such as Troy, Dirtnap, and Frank experiencing the same challenges as the events greenest players such as Crash, BB, and Warpig. While Frank took the overall first place in the event, both Crash and Warpig gave very good account of themselves against veteran combatants. Fez Macintosh, Chris, Ross, Jenn, and BB Bedard all provided some very entertaining battles. BB earned the respect of all by continuing to enter the arena after experiencing some unfortunate gun issues which left her defenseless during most of her combats.

The next event was the 100 meter obstacle course. This event consisted of  a 100 meter course through the woods on which the combatants had to run and engage 14 targets placed randomly along the trail. This was a timed event with Mike “Warpig” Giddings taking first place with an unbelievable time of 59.13 seconds. Not bad for his first Pistol event.

After a BBQ lunch of sausages and burgers, the participants moved to the standing target shoot made somewhat challenging by the unpredictable gusts of wind.

The final and signature event of the event, the ‘Quick Draw” began about 1430 Picture 046hrs under increasingly cloudy skies. All competitors displayed a quickness not often seen and many contests were decided by only fractions of a second.

With each combatant standing 50 feet apart, you could feel the tension as each awaited the quick tug of the rope being pulled from their fingers and the rush to draw their pistols.  This event was truly a test of the players skill, quickness and accuracy. With Tippmann TPX’s, Tiberius Tac-8′s and the new Tiberius 8.1 all being used, spectators were treated to a great display of equality in equipment and skill,

After the final round of the Quick Draw, the points were tallied to discover a log jam for second place. A series of elimination draws were held to determine second place.

After what must have seemed a long time to the players, all were called inside MFP’s pro-shop and the results were announced.

Congratulations to the following players:

Troy Hamilton- Team C.H.A.O.S., Guelph, Ontario- GRAND PRIZE WINNER!

Frank Benner, HeadHunters, Midland, Ontario-2nd Place

Mike “Warpig” Giddings-3rd Place.

Winner of the Underground Mod Shop’s “Warrior’s Heart Award-

Brandon Crash Moriarty-presented by “Dirtnap” of the Underground Mod Shop.

As the Operator of Midland Family Paintball Adventures, I would like to thank Maverick for all his help in coordinating and organizing this great day, Tiberius Arms for providing such a beautiful Grand Prize, Tippmann Sports for providing their awesome TPX pistol and the many Tippmann Sports T-Shirts and Hats.

A big thank you to my friends, family, and all the volunteers without whom I would not have been able to host this event, and lastly the PLAYERS!

Your spirit, commitment to sportsmanship, energy, and effort all combined to make this event as much a pleasure to watch as I hope it was to participate in!

Charlie Mike
