Here is a memorable group if there ever was one. Basing themselves off of numerous comic book characters…suffice it to say if you have played paintball with the Avengers, you’ll always remember them.
The Avengers as they are known, came together in the summer of 2005 and were founded by Dean Town aka Hulk, Drew Pickard aka Venom and James Hammond aka Captain America. They were all just starting out and the only people they had to play with had years and years of experience under their belts and took full advantage of James and friends and their inexperience. Right from the start James was wearing his Captain America costume he had made for Halloween. Jame is a huge comic book fan and Cap has always been his favorite. The others started to follow James lead on the costume side of things. As that first summer progressed they began developing strategies and teamwork and eventually were beating the guys who had harassed and abused them.
The next year they began playing at local fields as they became more aware of them.
By this point, Venom had put together a costume and Hulk began wearing all green. He’s working on an actual muscle suit as well. At the local fields the team were met with giggles and snide comments but they quickly went away when they played a few games with the Avengers. At any of the fields the team frequents if you asked for James by name you would get blank stares. They all know James simply as Captain America. I think it’s pretty cool, honestly. The Avengers have had a few people come and go since they started, as any paintball team does. James son has begun playing with as Ant-Man, they have also recently picked up a fellow who is working on an Iron Man armor and even plans to incorporate markers into his gauntlets by the time he finishes the armor. So far, the Avengers biggest event as a group was Invasion of Normandy 2009 at Skirmish USA. They played as Allies and spent the entire 4 day event in costume. What James found the most surprising was that people actually had heard of him and the team.

found playing at are a few private fields owned by members of the team and also at Lash’s Paintball and Airsoft www.lashspaintball.com where a few of the roster (including James) volunteer as referees and peace keepers. Once warm weather rolls around again they have plans to head further out to hit up some awesome fields in other parts of NY, like Cousin’s Paintball on Long Island and Albany Scenario Club’s field in Nassau. They’ve played at Skirmish USA and are planning to add Invasion of Normandy to their schedule permanently as it is easily the most fun any of them have had in a game of paintball. At the moment their official roster consists of 4 members and they have a reserve of an additional 4 members. As far as sponsors go… the closest such thing they have really is Lash’s. They’ve helped The Avengers as a group tremendously over the past few years.
The Avengers are a refreshing group of paintballers who have broken away from the norm and in so doing established a name for themselves that people will always remember.
