Chris “DeathX” Crawford and Sam “Professor” Sheng attended The War on Drugs II scenario game at Kbar’s Fireball Mountain in Wrightstown, NJ, the very same day that other TSSOC members attended Splatbrothers’ Mask of Red Death in Hopewell, VA. Dustin “PsYco” Farrell of Delta Paintball Team repeated his role as the Cartel general while for the U.S. Special Forces side, Jason “K2RISER” Davila, a first time scenario paintball player and first time general, stepped up as the challenger. Being that Tri-State Special Operations Command tends to like to play the underdog, they threw their support to the U.S. side. The Mercenaries, the game’s third entity, had Chris “Yourmomsbox” D’Addario of Team Hellkatz as their general, the trash-talk and role-playing on the PBNation forums leading up to the game added to the scenario. This game had a number of firsts, with the first-time general to start, but it was a first for Frank Hovatter, the newest operator of Kbar’s Fireball Mountain. Kbar Frank had recently been asked to manage Fireball Mountain from by the owner and spent numerous days preparing and readying the field for its first scenario game.
The Tri-State duo arrived at 7:00AM, they met with Frank who gave them the lay of the land and proceeded to do a field walk. The field was a diamond in the rough, with plenty of smaller bunkers mixed in with some larger structures. Tree cover was abundant and the field was extremely flat with nary a hill or ridge to be found making for a welcome break for many hardened scenario players. The sides were pretty even with each of the entities having 10-15 players a side. With the turnout being on the light side the 15 minute reinsertion rule was thrown out in favor of instant reinsertions being provided to players via a medic ref.
Battle commenced at 10:30 and Tri-State received their first orders of the day: Secure Bogota City and stop the Cartel from retrieving a Drug Pot, which was one of the components for the Cartel to make a Drug Lab. DeathX and Professor quickly moved to secure Bogota and flip the flag and when reinforcements arrived, they moved to forward bunkers to await the assault. Both Tri-Staters took on roles in the game to help the U.S. side. Professor became the side’s dealmaker and LAW operator continually broaching deals with the Mercenary side for aid and props while Death X took point on coordinating the side’s field tactics leading assault after assault while also securing missions and props which aided the point total.
The game featured many turns and swerves which added to the overall game. The Mercenary side once not able to hit the field without being hired first instead claimed the flag station at Bogota as its HQ. This move brought role-playing back to the forefront as both sides dealmakers negotiated with the Mercs for aid. Eventually the Mercenary side was driven off the field in a decisive move by the U.S. side lead by TSSOC. The U.S. was able to secure all of the point props located at Bogota helping their final point total greatly, but ultimately lost Bogota to the Cartel by whistle end. In the end though it wasn’t enough as following the climatic final battle the Cartel side proved victorious with a final score of Cartel 2200, U.S. 1675.
It was a great game for Tri-State, with fierce completion, excellent camaraderie and extremely fair play. For their efforts, Tri-State Special Operations Command’s Professor was awarded Most Valuable Player for the U.S. forces by General Jason “K2RISER” Davila. Tri-State salutes the Cartel and Mercenaries forces, especially Delta Paintball Team, Black Eagle Squadron, Hellkatz, Team Forefront, MSU Redhawks, OTP Frodo and Sunshine, for their hard and honorable play, and their allies, the U.S., especially the Chromatic Dragons and Zombie Defense Force, for their fearless efforts. Tri-State’s members had an excellent time at this event, rounding out an extremely successful season of paintball. The team is very much looking forward to playing with everyone again in 2010 at Kbar’s Fireball Mountain!
