Welcome Jeff Stinson, if you do not know who Jeff is, you soon will. Jeff is a very busy man in the paintball community with everything from running his own photography company JS Photo to being involved with PBCulture AND part of the staff for FaceFull Magazine. Jeff has been kind enough to include several examples of some of his fine photography found throughout this article.
My first experience actually happened to be a familiar spot for some New Englanders. My first time playing was at Matt’s Outback Paintball, in Coventry, CT. I played for the first time ever when I was 12, and really loved the game. The adrenaline rush was amazing. I started getting into paintball that year, picking up the infamous solid starting gun for a woodsballer, the Tippman Custom 98. It was a great starting
point for someone my age at the time. But it developed, I ended up putting on a double trigger, the infamous flatline kit, a remote system, and boy, it was giving me some great solid performance. From there I started to get serious, thinking that paintball was something I could really see myself playing every weekend. I started playing at an indoor speedball field in Brooklyn, Connecticut. It was called Stingers Paintball. This is really where I developed my passion for speedball, specifically “airball”. At that time the most advanced guns were the Angel and Shocker 4×4, but little inventions as the “Black Dragun” had caught my eye. That’s when I paintball progressed in to a weekly deal and really started me down the paintball path!
Jeff, over the course of your paintball experience what would be some of the highlights during this time period?
I would have to say that my most memorable and highlighting experiences are
traveling to some of the bigger national events such as PSP and NPPL/USPL events. For example, this past October, I was able to travel to PSP’s World Cup in Polk City, FL. I spent the trip with some great friends and sponsored teams including Shippensburg University’s Paintball Team and the EPL Series Champs, Plan B. It was a great experience, getting to get to travel and enjoy the area by night with friends while getting up in the morning and shooting paintball all day for reputable manufacturers and media outlets such as FaceFull, PBCulture.TV, and Valken. I was in a 4 Day heaven I guess you could say. I really love going to events where I’ve never been. They give me the opportunity to check out the area. Last year I traveled to at least 10+ events outside the great state of Pennsylvania, and that was probably the highlight of my year!
Jeff you are a very busy man within the paintball community, to begin with you own a photography business which includes paintball…..as a fellow photographer myself, looking over your paintball photos, which ones are your most favorite of all time?, why and where were they taken (could we see a couple?)
Where do I start?!?! This is a tough question. I’ve shot thousands upon thousands of shots that I could consider a single person’s favorite, but to pick one of my favorites out would be a tough one. I do recall the one shot that made me really enjoy shooting everyday weekend practices. I was shooting a Scrim/Practice for the EPL series at my home field, Wanna Play Paintball, in Dillsburg, PA, where one of the team members, Nate Alexander, was shot off the break in the top of the head on the way to D2 (Dorito 2), and I caught a photo that almost looked like a pink spider web. This is probably my favorite photo just because of the display of paint. I do have others that I have included that I love, but this one, I will always remember.
You are involved with PBCulture TV ….. what would be your role and what do you do, for those unaware of PBCulture, in your own words what is PBCulture, who all is involved, general background information please.
Well, I started with PBCulture right after Huntington Beach USPL last year. For
those that do not know what PBCulture is, it is a media network that is ran and created by paintball players for paintball players. We offer Video, Photography, and other resources to teams, leagues, and manufacturers. We have multiple video crews, photographers, and have big plans in store for 2010! PBCulture is mostly made up of a few key members, Josh Siegleman, the Quittman Brothers, and myself, as the Photography Director. We though have recently acquired some more talented staff, so stay tuned!
You also are involved with FaceFull?, what do you do with FaceFull and whats it like working with one of paintball’s top paintball publications?
Yes indeed! As of last July, I was brought aboard FaceFull as the online Staff Photographer as well as helping where needed in the magazine and website, projects, you name it! I’ll tell you what, I was expecting a organization that was like any other corporate infrastructure, but I was mistaken. The editors, staff, and personnel, are A-MAZING! I work hand in hand with online editor Drew on new catchy projects, graphics, photos, & event coverage. I was recently featured 2 issues back about my rise in the sport over the last 2 years and how I’m now contributing to the site and magazine. All I can say is stay tuned! We are working on some things soon that should definitely spark your interest!
What’s on the books for 2010?…..where can we expect to see Jeff Stinson and what events are you looking the most forward to?
2010, this is the year to shine, and I hope I do! New equipment is here, featuring a new Canon Body I’ve been debating buying for the last 4 months, the Canon 7D. Those, along with an added week of vacation thanks to my daily job as a graphic artist, things are looking good for the 2010 season. No promises, but my goal for the year is to attend every USPL/NPPL and PSP event! I’ll also be stepping on board as a Media Relations Advisor for a few leagues, as well as picking up new clients/teams for coverage at events. I’m also accepting a few teams for sponsorship applications, preferably PSP teams, but may make an exception for USPL/NPPL 7-Man team for this year, as I currently sponsor a vast spread of USPL/NPPL teams including Arsenal Predators, Infamy, and Nasty.
