Del “Windwalker” Taylor recalls his first paintball game in 1997 held at the regional Police Academy. The correct name of the venue was the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training Center. Del recalls, “we were given a 10 minute drill instruction and then thrown to the wolves”. Like so many others who have had that same kind of adrenaline filled, action packed first experience he became addicted to paintball forever.
Daniel SRT Sniper Fifield is currently serving with the United States Army out of Fort Hood, Texas. Dan started playing in 2002, and got into the sport on account of his unit, a Military Police Tactical Team, who were looking for a cheap means to augment their training. There wasnt much money amongst them at the time, a couple of the guys owned old Tippmann 98′s, and someone found a box of Splatmasters in a closet collecting dust. These markers had probably been purchased for training use years ago but had been forgotten about. Still, they worked and they set about using them until they were able to upgrade to something better.
The base where they operated also had expansive woodland areas, and naturally training was conducted there also. In the end training gave way to Capture the Flag, Hostage Rescue, and anything else they could think of. When the Tippmann A-5 came out a bunch of the guys purchased them, Dan included. Before they knew it they had a fully functional paintball team.
Both Dan and Del met through the MSOG or Milsim Owners Group and went on to become Officers of the organization such as it was at the time. With the owners of the Milsim Owners Group opting to discontinue the organization, many were disheartened at the idea that this burgeoning community of scenario paintballers was to be no more. Thus the Milsim Empire was born out of a real necessity to see the community and all of the friendships that had been built survive and move forward.
Dan and Del went to work and The Milsim Empire first went online on June 11th, 2007. There are tons of different paintball forums to be found across the World Wide Web but few cater specifically to the Milsim/Scenario paintball scene as the Milsim Empire does. Many of its membership have law enforcement or military backgrounds and a combined wealth of knowledge on everything from tips to tactics. The Milsim Empire is officially sponsored by Scenario Supply, Milsig, Tactical Replicas, Game Initiation, Valken Sports, Flasc Paintball and Scenario Arms.
To hold an official Milsim Empire sanctioned event, two officers of the organization must be present. To date the Milsim Empire can boast 5 such events since 2007 including two editions of the Fulda Gap Scenario event, GIANT Big Game XVI of Wisconsin, Platoon Leader Milsim event and The Promised Land II Charity Event for Cystic Fibrosis. Windwalker mentions that for 2010 and onwards it is the hope of the Milsim Empire to begin holding upwards of 3 to 4 such events annually.
One of the greatest highlights of running an organization such as the Milsim Empire would be the bonding and camaraderie found by meeting other members of our online group says Del. Here’s too many more years of operations as paintball continues to grow globally with the help of great organizations such as The Milsim Empire.
