The Grid Fighters Demo went off without a hitch with several reputable teams descending on Flagswipe Paintball, Sunday February 28th, 2010. Basically this would be mainstream soccer or hockey meets XBall with 5 man
teams hitting the floor running, markers blazing. Despite the fact this was only a demo, teams present fought ferociously giving no quarter to the opposition. Paint flew through the air relentlessly, as players were hit they exited the field only to be replaced by another anxious player until the buzzer finally sounded ending the round.
Owner of Ground Zero Paintball Marc Beaudoin had this to say about the Flagswipe Demo; “this was the best demo of Grid Fighters so far, we look forward to introducing the tournament series to others”. Others in attendance were clearly impressed with the format despite a few minor glitches to the game.
From what The Catshack Reports understood, the only problem that the Demo stood to iron out was the scoring system. Five scoring posts located at each end of the field is the objective which the opposing team must direct paint into in order to score a “goal”. The sheer volume of paint flying through the air periodically jammed the post sensor not awarding the points. Marc and others agree that another purpose of the Demo is to identify these glitches and address each prior to each Demo and eventually the introduction outright of the tournament series itself.
Grid Fighters clearly stands to provide to the paintball community an action packed format that is super tough in that it takes a real athlete capable of sustained bursts of energy to compete. Much like any other sport in the world today.
The Catshack Reports looks forward to seeing more Grid Fighters in future and awaits the next date to witness more of the same seen today at the Flagswipe Indoor in London ON.
