The Wasaga Beach “ArchAngel” game was another stellar paintball event August 21st, 2010. On the Friday night teams from across the province and beyond descended on Canada’s biggest game of the year to erect tent city. Tippmann ran their pistol and pump challenge and Valken alongside Underground Productz and Exalt set up impressive tents only adding to a two day experience that will forever live on in the memories of the hundreds in attendance. From the Valken tent, BlackOps TV held another of their live broadcasts with their first live audience as paintballers crowded around to not only observe but take an interactive part in. Greg Hastings and brother Glenn appeared with several terminals setup for attendees to try out the new “Greg Hastings Tournament Paintball II” video game, yet another attraction that saw many young and old present to check out the virtual paintball game.

Mother Nature favored Wasaga as rain hit other parts of the province sparing  the big game and allowing it to go on completely unhindered. As the sun rose in the sky so to did the tent city begin to stir as many awoke pumped about the action the day was about to bring. Long lines formed to begin the process of registration and to obtain much needed paint and other paintball necessities.

Following all the preparations from registration to chronying the markers, Wasaga  Beach officials pumped the crowd with the pre-game speeches. Wolf of the Wolfs Den rolled in with his entourage further adding to the interesting displays and excitement of the day.

So it began as members of both WAR and ArchAngel streamed onto the field en masse to begin the inevitable hailstorm of paint so typical of a game with such a target rich environment. As Scott “Bad Revrend” Barnes so aptly put it during his video interview with the Wolfs Den, “this years Wasaga game was extremely well put together with both sides evenly matched as well as ample game officials on hand to monitor the players and enforce the rules, it was by far their best event in my six years playing here”. Stacy B present with her BlackThorn crew out of Gananoque ON and runner up for the Miss Catshack Contest was awarded her prize package while Courtney G, Tania C and Michelle K, also participants in this years contest exchanged paint on the field.

The day swung back and forth as both WAR and ArchAngel orchestrated push after push with much real estate constantly changing hands. During my time on the field alongside my team The Glen Morris Mercenaries, WAR hit the right side of the field hard in an amazing push that saw swarms of players take the ridge and toss ArchAngel into complete disarray. Further still, in another epic moment, playing some ball alongside Hastings was just to much fun. This writer has to admit Hastings reputation as a skilled pro player is well justified as the man himself is so talented with a pump marker and can traverse hills and difficult terrain quicker than most.

Special thanks to Tippmann Sports as well as Captain Sid of Operation Milsim and buymilsim.ca, Matty “Maverick” Watts of the Northern Gunmen and Brad “Cujo” Wagenaar of The Glen Morris Mercenaries for spending hours repairing and teching paintball markers for the many players experiencing various difficulties from the Tippmann tent.

As the day wound down hundreds of tired paintball enthusiasts piled off the field to see the results of the days battles. All in all everyone in attendance played a very commendable game of paintball. Through various missions and hard fought battles it was the ArchAngel Forces that took victory over WAR.

Tons of prizes including a $1000 gift certificate from Odyssey Car Audio in Barrie,  as well as entire player packages courtesy of Tippmann Sports, Kee Action Sports, Rhino Pro Shop, Valken Sports, Underground Productz with additional prizes courtesy of Flagswipe Paintball, The Catshack Reports and Flagraiders Paintball. The big pre registration prize included a gift certificate of $1000 for Future Shop courtesy of Wasaga Beach Paintball. Much  thanks to Mental Acts graphic designs for the game fliers as well special jerseys for the game worn by Generals and Sergeants. Incidentally many of the regional teams proudly wore their jerseys designed by Mental Acts.

All in all a great day of paintball was had by all and no one walked away unsatisfied with the biggest game Canada has to offer each year. Good times is what it’s all about!

Wasaga! … that is all!
