As the official 2011 paintball season ramps up, The Catshack Reports thought it only fitting to get back on the Catshack Hotline to touch base with young Sawyer Smith and his father, Dan Smith, of the Max’d Kidz Paintball Team located in sunny California.

Sawyer and Dan got on the speaker phone while at the same time rolling out video for their weekly segment of Sawyer Sez aired every Wednesday night on PBLive. One of the Catshack’s first questions posed to young Sawyer is what he thought about global warming. Personally with myself here in the Great White North I have become something of a big advocate for global warming. I look forward to the day PBLive personality Ryan McDonald and Sawyer and Dan are knee deep in snow while I, on the other hand, am enjoying Pina Colada’s on the beach! Sawyer didn’t seem to share my enthusiasm for the idea and politely declined the idea of snow on his doorstep.

Sawyer and all the awards from the 2010 season

This year Max’d Kidz are very pleased to add both Ninja and Eclipse to their already impressive list of sponsors as they prepare to enter the Division 2 level of competition. Sawyer was particularly happy to mention that they are soon to receive their GEO2 markers of choice complete with names and the team logo engraved on the side courtesy of Eclipse.

The Catshack was curious on what wisdom Sawyer might share with other competitive paintball players his age. Sawyer was quick to comment on the importance of lots of practice and how appreciative he was to enjoy the game alongside his father. Indeed paintball is a great father/son experience for those looking for an activity to share as family. Sawyer went on to mention the importance of establishing a solid team and sharing as a group such things as coming up with a team name together.

On to some of Sawyer’s personal favorite moments he enjoyed most in 2010. Sawyer with the help of Dan rapped off his top three which included taking third at the NPPL Vegas event, winning the overall RPL trophy as well as taking a first place in the very first RPL tournament in 2010.

For 2011 Sawyer is looking super forward to competing in the NPPL, RPL and D Leagues. Looking further into the future it is Sawyer’s plan to join the pro’s even as soon as a couple of years from now.  In something of a startling announcement both Dan and Sawyer mentioned that fellow team member Brandon Teunissen has just been recruited by Dynasty this year. Max’d Kidz has been looking towards adding to their own roster and as of now are unsure how the change will affect the team dynamic. Both Max’d Kidz and The Catshack Reports wish Brandon the very best as he joins the pros for the 2011 competition season. Dan remains very upbeat that despite the loss to their roster, Max’d Kidz are ready to take Division 2 by storm.
