Its been a while since The Catshack Reports set the cameras aside to play some paintball and played I certainly did! The Catshack Reports had an absolute blast at Georgina Paintball in Pefferlaw ON for their season opener. Following morning announcements, over 175 paintball players took their sides for the game to commence around 11am. The field itself boasts plenty of woodlands as well as some good field features including a tire field, trenches and an intermodal city. The staging area and for that matter the course itself was clean and well groomed. It was clear Georgina staff worked hard in preparation for their kickoff game for 2012, also of note, signs of construction indicate a solid field investment.

As the opening whistle blew, battle lines quickly formed from the sizable tire field clear across the width of the field. SAS Woodsball Canada in the company of Citrus Connection and others came out swinging while the PTK Warhounds in the company of the Algonquin Irregulars, EZ Creation Factory Team and other crews took positions, succeeding to thwart their advance. I believe it took a total of the first ten minutes of this game for me to unload half a case of paint in such a target rich environment. In another memorable moment, The Catshack accompanied the EZCreation Factory Team for a wide right flank down the tape line in an effort to hit the enemy where it hurt. Popping out of thick brush our surprise was short lived as we accomplished little more than one for one eliminations. Nevertheless these moments coupled with socializing in the staging area make paintball unlike any other sport on the planet, its what I live for.

Clearly another paintball event that saw both teams lock horns and really fight to gain an inch of ground … back and forth, back and forth through the majority of the day. It was only the second last battle that finally saw SAS Woodsball finally deliver “Death from Above” sweeping into the Warhound base in a terrible rush that had remnants of the now tattered Warhound army scatter and run for cover. The final battle saw plenty of Sport Smoke grenades pitched and the SAS Woodsball team regroup and once more advance to deliver the final blow that broke the Warhound opposition and claim victory over the day.

“No words can describe the great day that we had at the season opening game at Georgina Paintball. A special thanks to all the management and staff for their hard work in organizing the event and to all the teams, special guests and players that came out. It was a day filled with battles going back and forth between team Alpha Charlie and team Kilo Golf, fighting for control of territory and special missions. It was also awesome to see and be part of our paintball community that banded together to aid the worthy cause of helping Sarge and Erin Morin in this difficult time in their lives. A personal thanks to Mike and Tim Deegan for organizing “The Hot Dog Combo”. Regardless of the outcome of the game scores, everyone won at this event. Awesome weather, great field, good players and amazing sense of community consciousness

On behalf of the Warhounds, A special thanks goes out to Deep, Andrew, Neil and the rest of the Georgina Paintball staff for inviting the Warhounds to be part of this great event.”. Noted Kevin “Arrow” Grell, Team Captain, Warhounds and General

“I have to say that being a general for my first time in a game was exciting. Great field, great people and a great time today. Its different when you’re the general. You don’t get to play all that much but I will say this, it’s an experience I won’t soon forget. Playing against a good friend, Kevin Grell of the Warhounds, was a blast! They put up a good fight but I had some strong backers like Citrus Connection, ODST, VICE, Charlie Platoon Paintball and not to forget my own team SAS Woodsball, plus all of the people not attached to a team! These people helped to take the win. All in all, it was a great day to sling some paint.” states Adam “Aces” Collyer, Team Captain SAS Woodsball Canada and General.

The day was further blessed with the presence of a few celebrities in their own right to include Sarge Morin AND his beautiful wife, none other than Erin of Erin’s Army. The paintball community came together on this special occasion with serious fund raising efforts to assist Erin in her battle with cancer raising over $600 with a charity BBQ and more. Adam Bown aka “Cowboy” won the 50/50 draw and promptly handed his winnings to Erin to further help in her efforts. As the day wore on, time and time again I noted one particular young man wandering around the PTK Warhounds tent who seemed oddly familiar, it was only at the end of the day I finally blurted out “hey you are the spitting image of that MuchMusic VJ” … to which he replied “well …. that is me” …. Mr Tim Deegan, formerly a MuchMusic VJ and now host of his own show “Rugged” which can be seen on Rogers Sportsnet.

Overall another sterling event courtesy of Deep Patel and the staff of Georgina Paintball as The Catshack Reports continues our whirlwind journey to find the best paintball games for 2012. Thanks so much to the PTK Warhounds for the personal invitation to join them and play some paintball for the day.
