The power of the internet sees the Catshack become quite global. Welcome Karla Andrade, big paintball enthusiast and speedball player from sunny Mexico. The Catshack loves to touch base with ballers worldwide …. grab a coffee and read our interview with Karla as she speaks on her experiences, her team and paintball in Mexico!
I started for the first time 12 years ago in 2000 in Tijuana BC Mexico with my father who liked to paintball. He knew I’m a crazy girl who loves extreme sports and had no problem introducing me to the game. My first game was at a field named Baja Paintball. The field was approx 4 acres and was the only one that had helicopters, houses, boats, trucks, stones, thorns and mountains. It was a WAR! At the time speedball did not exist in Mexico. Paintball here was very different than it is today. Markers and paintballs were also much different. After approximately 2 years, I left off playing rec ball in favor of HyperBall as speedball became known here in Mexico. That’s why I said how lucky people are today who now can buy the best gear , we are in years of technology, its very cool. I love it but I’m lucky too because I can talk about all of my experiences and learn more about the people.
My motivation has always been the adrenaline! I have gone through an evolution with different markers, some I think that weighed twice as much today’s do. Today I see people starting and I think they are lucky, they can play woodsball or speedball. Perhaps they can play like a pro in a few years its amazing. Personally woodsball will always be some of my best experiences. Today the sport is my passion and I have come to love speedball.

These are the dates I am participating with my team Heaven & Hell, there are others who were on the roster that will always remain a part of Heaven & Hell. For my team this year, I accomplished my goal, to build a new HEAVEN & HELL with new blood and new people. Last year 2011 saw big changes leading up to December with the roster falling apart. I didn’t want the name and the team to simply disappear, some friends asked me if I wanted to join their team, I accepted and asked if they wanted to combine the team names or just call it Heaven & Hell. The crew decided to simply call it Heaven and Hell and that’s the team today. H & H has seen many players including various professional players who came to play with us such as Aaron Morris, David Bains, Tony Perez and Glenn Takemoto. Those were the glory days, now we have started from scratch with most of the original team gone. Today it’s an awesome team and our goal is to participate in all events this year for the MPL here in Mexico. We plan to make a return to first place with the new roster. The best part about the team team is their attitude  and friendship, something that was lost before. Today they are all very good players with a strong commitment to paintball and the team H&H.
The Catshack Reports: You are training a crew of girls, awesome! … who are they and what are your plans for the LAGUNA Angels
Karla: The team LAGUNA Angels was a team playing just woodsball when I first met them, now they are a caliber speedball team. They are from Torreon, Coahuila in Mexico. The girls have plenty attitude and want to learn more everyday about paintball. The girls see paintball as a sport not just a hobby. Each personally strives to be a part of the best team in Mexico. All are very good players and that’s why I am training the girls. Here in Mexico only a few really stand out or are known. There is only one team of women in Mexico, and I want it to be the best and prove that being a woman does not prevent you from doing anything. Most of all each of us want to prove it to ourselves. I have been working with this team for about 5 weeks and have seen some very impressive progress already. Our goal is to play for the first time in the MPL and win 1st in the Rookie Division and then go on to face other all female teams. We will continue to grow and participate in other tournaments such as RTW also in Mexico. Perhaps we then might play in the USA.
The Catshack Reports: Who are your
sponsors?
Karla: In October 2010 I was  sponsored by Planet Eclipse, This year as of April 2012, Luxe and HK have given me the opportunity of sponsorship. Luxe markers I have proven as excellent! Luxe really caught my attention and is a quality marker and I feel one of the best markers available today. Ever popular HK is a growing brand and focused on young people and adults to. The youth is where the paintball market is as they are only going to grow as players. HK designs are very cool , so I think both are excellent brands.
Catshack Reports: Where do you see paintball for you in the future?
Karla: I plan to continue playing with my team HEAVEN & HELL hopefully forever ( all male players and me female) and the new team LAGUNA ANGELSÂ (all female players). With both teams, I hope to be a good influence to young people who in turn will become players themselves. I especially want to see more female players and teams. Female players are aggressive and intelligent. As a player I will continue to share my knowledge with others and be able to teach people. I am thankful for these opportunities and will continue helping the sport grow in Mexico.
