NAX Finals at Commando Paintball was truly unlike any other competition I have ever personally witnessed, simply put this one was an all out WAR!. The Catshack Reports has attended numerous speedball tournaments over the years but the 2012 NAX finals showed teams so hungry for the win, the level of aggression was incredible to say the least.
On the Saturday, the first memorable match up pitted The Mont Tremblant Cowboys versus Drummondville Daytona. The Cowboys tore up the field collecting their points the first half but seemed to lose momentum going into the second half which in turn had Drummondville make up points resulting in a narrow win for Mont Tremblant. Watching the Houston Heat line up was entertaining with Monville making some super moves along the snake side in the second round and both Ronnie Dizon and Chad “Ya Ya” Bouchez setting up some fatal crossfire situations making short work of some of the Daytona opposition. The Cowboys squeaked out a win 10-8 quickly realizing taking the Cup would have to be hard earned.
Seeing last years champs Windsor Lockdown in action was no less exciting with pros from Tampa Bay Damage on the field. Billy Bernacchia showed his metal on more than one occasion as a Drummondville player tore up the field coming at Billy in the back can. With a sideline coaching alert, Billy quickly leapt into the air shooting over the can ending the rush by planting paint in the opposing players lens rather expertly.
Vancouver brought the Thunder blazing a trail for others to follow taking team after team down for the count including the Cowboys and Lockdown.Their point spreads left nothing to the imagination with Vancouver showing themselves a very dominant force straight through to the bitter end.
Sunday became the day that would define all, including which team would take the Cup home. The Catshack recorded the first match between Vancouver and Mont Tremblant. It must be said that the Cowboys were at a distinct disadvantage the entirety of the first half with the team facing directly into the morning sun off the break. Vancouver seized the opportunity and snatched point after point from the blinded Cowboys resulting in a significant point spread leading into the second half. Changing ends was to little to late for Mont Tremblant with the team somewhat demoralized and the end result being an 11-6 loss to Vancouver much to the astonishment of … well, everybody.
Perhaps the most exciting game of the day had to be the last. A full blown re match with the Mont Tremblant Cowboys once again facing off on Vancouver Thunder. Extremely exciting as each team would score a point and the other would take the point back the following round, the entirety so back and forth, edge of your seat kind of stuff! Into the second half it was Vancouver which drew a major penalty … and then another major the following round essentially killing what might have been a victory overall. In the final couple of rounds Thunder players sailed straight up the field off the break right into the Cowboy end zone and in one round actually succeeded in taking a point and eliminating the remaining Cowboy players. To little to late as The Mont Tremblant Cowboys took the victory 8-7 to be named NAX Final Champions complete with their names to be forever etched on the Richmond Cup and a hefty check for $10000 (or some pretty fancy NAX rings courtesy of Jostens)

Thunder didn’t play Medonte. We beat Windsor to start, then Tremblant for a berth in the final game.
